Chain widths

Width is the number in millimeters, and it changes the look more than anything else. Under 3 mm reads as a thin chain that disappears under a collar and works as a pendant carrier. Between 4 and 6 mm you start to see the links from across a room. From 8 mm up the chain is the outfit, and the weight is noticeable by the end of a long day.

Length guide

Measure a chain you already wear, lay it flat and read the number in inches. If you have nothing to measure, a piece of string round your neck at the height you want, then a ruler, gets you close. On an average adult neck 18 inches sits at the collarbone, 20 inches lands just below it, 22 to 24 inches sits mid-chest over a shirt, and 26 to 28 inches hangs near the sternum. Add two inches if your neck measures over 17 inches.

Care and cleaning

Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft toothbrush handle almost everything. Dry the piece fully before it goes back in the box, because trapped water is what dulls plating from underneath. Keep chains apart in storage: a tangle of five is how thin links get bent.

Is it real gold?

No. These are stainless steel pieces with a gold tone or black finish over them, priced accordingly. That is the trade you are making: a 5 mm cuban chain for the price of a lunch, with a finish that will need replacing sooner than solid metal would.

Will it turn my skin green?

Stainless steel by itself does not react the way brass and copper do, so most people wear these with no mark at all. Sweat, lotion and chlorine can still leave a stain where a plated surface has worn through to the base metal. Rinsing after the gym is the whole fix.

Can I shower in it?

You can, and the finish will go dull faster. Shampoo and hot water lift plating at the edges of every link. Taking a chain off at the bathroom door adds years to it, and takes four seconds.

Why does the same chain have several prices?

Because every width and length is its own listing, and the price follows the amount of metal. A 3 mm 18 inch chain and an 8 mm 28 inch chain are the same design and nowhere near the same price. The size table on each product page shows the whole family with a price on each row.
